Never Let Me Go

© Faber and Faber

“Memories, even your most precious ones, fade surprisingly quickly. But I don’t go along with that. The memories I value most, I don’t ever see them fading.”

-Kazuo Ishiguro, Never Let Me Go

‎Happiness comes and goes. Fulfillment last.

‎Different people have different kinds of meaning about happiness.

‎Their happiness might be about money.

‎Their happiness might be about the things that they hold precious.

‎Happiness might be the release of the dopamine chemicals.

‎There are different kinds of happiness that people talk about.

‎It might be going to the party, having a drink, and having fun.

‎But that happiness comes and goes.

‎They are pleasure and happiness.

‎Victor Frankl gives it a broader understanding…

‎”When people can’t find a deep sense of meaning, they distract themselves with pleasure.”

‎Your suffering has a meaning, but most people don’t like to suffer; that’s why they go to experience pleasure.

‎By having a sense of meaning, you can’t escape suffering because there is the growth of that, and when there is a growth that is happening, it leads to fulfillment.

‎Again, Happiness comes and goes, fulfillment lasts.
