“Memories, even your most precious ones, fade surprisingly quickly. But I don’t go along with that. The memories I value most, I don’t ever see them fading.”
-Kazuo Ishiguro, Never Let Me Go
Happiness comes and goes. Fulfillment last.
Different people have different kinds of meaning about happiness.
Their happiness might be about money.
Their happiness might be about the things that they hold precious.
Happiness might be the release of the dopamine chemicals.
There are different kinds of happiness that people talk about.
It might be going to the party, having a drink, and having fun.
But that happiness comes and goes.
They are pleasure and happiness.
Victor Frankl gives it a broader understanding…
”When people can’t find a deep sense of meaning, they distract themselves with pleasure.”
Your suffering has a meaning, but most people don’t like to suffer; that’s why they go to experience pleasure.
By having a sense of meaning, you can’t escape suffering because there is the growth of that, and when there is a growth that is happening, it leads to fulfillment.
Again, Happiness comes and goes, fulfillment lasts.
