For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice.
-T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets
What’s the difference between the present and future times?
Even grade schoolers may be able to answer those questions.
The thing about time is that it’s a constant that keeps moving, and no human being can stop it.
I always say that, the past is a compass to navigate the future.
The past is needed to study to know and be aware that we are headed in the right direction that we are going so that the future that we imagine will be aligned with what we believe will happen.
In other words, driving a car and looking at the side mirror or rearview mirror helps us to see or be aware of the road that we pass by while focusing on the front makes more sense metaphorically speaking.
