Finite and Infinite Games

© Free Press

“A finite game is played for the purpose of winning, an infinite game for the purpose of continuing the play.”

‎‎-James P. Carse, Finite and Infinite Games: A Vision of Life as Play and Possibility

‎You must know the game before you play it because when you see the game you are playing, you play it with the right mindset.

‎‎Playing a game with the wrong mindset does not benefit you in the end because trust declines, cooperation declines, and winning is impossible (which is that there is no such thing as winning in an Infinite game)

‎‎We live in an Infinite Game, whether you like it or not, but we are treating it like a finite game.

‎‎Guess what? It’s no surprise that some companies and institutions are struggling because they play the game and their mindset in a game in which they are playing does not align with the strategy they need to know.
