“Everything was real; inconceivably real, infinitely dear. These and all things started as nothing, latent within a vast energy-broth, but then we named them, and loved them, and, in this way, brought them forth. And now we must lose them.”
-George Saunders, Lincoln in the Bardo
What’s the point of all those things If, in the end, you will lose them? I think we are born in this world with nothing, and in the end, we will die with nothing. Please make no mistake about it because this is the reality of life. You will understand more broadly about the things that give us the energy to pursue our dreams in life, whatever that is. It gives you an action to go on living rather than seeking only meaningless pleasure. But is life meaningless? That’s why more people seek pleasure.
The ultimate answer for me I think is about what legacy will you leave whether to a few people or in your family that before you will pass in this world, how they can remember you by telling other people the impact you did in their lives. That is priceless but a meaningful way of living.
