“A pool hustler had to do what he claimed to be able to do. The risks he took were not underwritten. His skill on the arena of green cloth – cloth that itself was the color of money – could never be only pretense.”
-Walter Tevis, The Color of Money (Eddie Felson, #2)
Sports are games that have fair play.
It’s a finite game.
The game ends when there is a declare to be a winner depending on the rules that they obey.
Hustlers are hustlers because they want to make sure that they always win the game even breaking the rules of it.
Professionals are professionals because they obey the rules so that the game will be trusted in the long run.
This is why big leagues like the NBA, MLB, NFL etc. have a credibility to sustain the game and make sure that it is a fair game.
Hustling will never end because whatever it takes to win a game, it will need hustle.
Maybe life is a game, you need to hustle hard or just make sure that you obey the rules.
