I read a book years pass by, titled The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek.
He explained this by understanding the ideas pioneered by Dr, James Carse on Finite and Infinite Games: A Vision of Life as Play and Possibility.
Finite Game, the objective for this is to win a game like Basketball.
Infinite Game, the objective for this is to continue to play the game to improve.
A little bit of understanding is this, If you want to win, go for sports like Basketball, and Football. Go for Education. Go for Politics. Go for Business.
But If your Objective is Improvement, Go for Learning, Make things better by making better things, Go to help other people to become a better version of themselves, Make Stressful days into Inspiring days by the Arts you make like Music, Films, Painting, and Books.
We don’t do this because of Blockbusters, Fame, Money, Billboard Top Charts, Recognition, and Bestsellers, because that’s the wrong game.
What we are in the Game is Infinite.
Yes, there is a competition out there like Oscar awards, New York Times Bestseller, and others but this is a context only in which the Infinite Game exists.
The Objective of the Artist is to Improve, without thinking about the outcome but the progress of getting better day in, and day out.
Guess what look for the Artist that changes the culture in their field, they didn’t expect that they make an impact because they see a problem and think of a solution, most importantly, Inspires other Artists.
A finite game makes you happy for a while because of recognition But an Infinite Game makes you fulfill because of your Art that helps other people.
